The Ladies Free Skate took place last night in Vancouver at the Winter 2010 Olympic games. Earlier in the week, the women showed off their skills in the short program, but last night they pulled out all the stops to deliver memorable routines to the excited arena crowd.
Americans Mirai Nagasu and Rachael Flatt had solid programs but fell a bit short of the podium. Mirai took 4th overall and Rachael took 7th.
The three top placing Olympians were Yu-Na Kim from Korea, Mao Asada from Japan and Joannie Rochette from Canada. Joannie’s performance was heartfelt and captivating as she skated in memory of her mother who passed away just a day before she was to deliver her short program at the Olympic games. The Canadian crowd rallied around Joannie to motivate her into a Bronze medal finish. What a strong young athlete! Go, Joannie!
The games were really exciting to watch yesterday. In just a few days the 2010 Winter Olympics will be wrapping up in Vancouver but we can always learn from the discipling and dedication these athletes posses and how to apply it in our own lives.
