Last night was this week’s results show of American Idol where 4 contestants were eliminated leaving Top 12 singers to battle it out next week in AI’s first theme week. Katelynn Epperly, Lilly ScottTodrick Hall and Alex Lambert were all voted out of the competition last night shocking many fans. Though the four fantastic singers surely were sad to go, they were able to handle getting the boot with great grace and recognized the great opportunity they were given.

We all know, hearing the word “no” can be really hard. But we can take a lesson from the American Idol contestants on taking rejection the right way. The first thing to remember is that if you are going to take risks, you have to be ready for a little rejection.

The key to dealing with rejection is not to take it personally. What? You’re thinking, “But it is personal.”  If you don’t get picked for a part in the school play or a guy you like asks someone else to the school dance, it’s not about you. A lot goes into any decision, and many things are out of your control. Maybe that boy doesn’t know you like him. Maybe that drama teacher gave the part to someone who has helped out with the props. Maybe neither the play nor the boy is right for you. What is in your control is your attitude. You can find another boy, audition for another play. Winners try and try again.

We always hear the American Idol contestants proclaim, “it’s not the end for me,” as they are eliminated from the show. And they’re right! If you are dedicated and keep a positive attitude, you never know what new opportunities will come your way.

Keep your head up, JAM girl!

The Oscars (aka the Academy Awards) aired last night on ABC and all the biggest stars came out looking fabulous, ready to honor their fellow actors. Let’s start at the beginning with the red carpet.  Yes -Sandra Bullock was a winner all the way around.  She looked totally amazing and she won the Academy Award for Best Actress – the highest award in the land (the land of Hollywood and the world of entertainment, of course). She won the presitgious award for her role in the inspiring football film, The Blindside.

For those of you that might have been asleep when Sandra made her acceptance speech – she thanked her mother for always telling her to practice the piano and to not go into cars with boys.  Also, Sandra’s Mom told her not to be like everyone else and to be her own person.  When Sandra was young, like you, and her mother would say those things to her I’m sure she felt the way you would– with the BIG question – WHY?   Please trust that your parents want you to be the best you can be and have really good ideas to help you get there.  There are also thing you can do too to help you best the best you can be.

Being the best you can be sometimes has to do with positive thinking.  Take a look at SELF ESTEEM peek inside for fun things to do to help tune up for some positive thinking!

Stay Beautiful. Xoxo, Marlene
