Have you ever felt pressured to dress, act, or think a certain way, just because everyone else is doing it? Sometimes it can seem hard to be your own person in a group of friends. What many teens don’t realize is that so much beauty & joy in life comes from our differences!
Being yourself is celebrating you, as an individual. What sets you apart from others is also what makes you unique and special! Remember, it’s totally OK to sometimes give up what you want to make your friends happy (like going to see a sappy romantic comedy when you really wanted to catch that Sci-Fi thriller!) But it’s never OK to let the expectations of others define who you are inside.
Have fun with your style, stand up for what you believe in, and never take yourself too seriously. If today is the day you want to wear different colored shoelaces, then go for it!
JAM girls are never afraid to stand out from the crowd!

Hey JAM girls, if you tuned into the Academy Awards on Sunday night you know it was so totally inspiring. All our favorite stars, writers, and directors there to receive awards for all their amazing work! Winners or not, everyone in that was there proved that the key to success is simpler than we might think: YOU MUST BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!!
Young girls in Hollywood are just like you. They face the same issues the feeling of insecurity on a daily basis! Even the most self-assured girls can sometimes lose faith in themselves and wonder if they should keep going or give up. Luckily, our favorite teen stars NEVER gave up – because if they did, they wouldn’t be where they are now!
We think that Gabourey Sidibe (Gaby) is a great inspiration to all girls everywhere. (Gaby is the star of Precious which was nominated for SIX academy awards!) The amazing thing about Gabey is that she really shines from the inside out. She may not look like the average Hollywood star but she just radiates beauty and confidence!
Sandra Bullock is another Hollywood star who knows to always believe in herself! Sandra won Best Actress for her role in The Blind Side. In her acceptance speech, she saved time to thank her mother for always reminding her to practice the piano and for telling her not to get into cars with boys until she was 18! We’re thrilled that Sandra took
home an Oscar – her first ever!
We admire Gabey and Sandra’s courage and hope that all of our JAM girls will take note: confidence is beautiful, and self-esteem will get you far!
